Age 75, of Athens, PA and formerly of Mansfield, PA, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Ashton Healthcare in Athens, PA. Alberta was born on July 16, 1934 in Lawrenceville, PA, a daughter of Roderick and Alberta (Potter) Ayers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, PA. Alberta had been employed by the former Dutch Pantry, Penn Wells Hotel, the American Truck Stop, the former Pumpernickel and Eddie's Truck Stop. Alberta is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward and Jeanette Greene of Mansfield, PA, Howard and Timothy Greene of Stow, OH; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and David Stahle of Houston, AL, Julie and Ryan Rose of Waverly, NY, Cindy and Darrell Jerrells of Barefoot Bay, FL; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roderick Ayers Jr. of Millerton, PA, William and Beverly Ayers of Millerton, PA, Thomas and Kathy Ayers of Red Lion, PA; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Fetton Cox of TX, Elaine Taylor of Bath, NY, Linda and John Lowery of Canton, PA; a half sister and half brother-in-law, Isabelle and Charlie Ferrngo of Tioga, PA; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Bonnie Parker; and two special friends, Virginia Ford and Virginia Case. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Ayers in 2007; a granddaughter, Amber Jerrells in 2002; and two sisters, Cora Hornsby and Dora Bartholomew. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, September 19, 2009, from Noon to 2 p.m. at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Colegrove officiating. Kathryn L. BARRON, (SRGP 87082) age 35 of Burlington, Vt., formerly of Mansfield, died on Wednesday, February 23, 1972 at the Burlington Hospital, Vermont.  Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church on Sunday.  The Rev. Richard Nevin officiated.  Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Medical Technology Scholarship Fund in care of Mary Breen, Allied Help, University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont.  She is survived by parents, Mr. And Mrs. Frank Barron; brother Richard F. Barron; sister Mrs. Janet Sargent, all of Mansfield; one niece, three nephews.  Miss Barron attended the Mansfield schools and was a graduate of Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pa.  She was an instructor of medical technology at the University of Vermont.  She was a member of the American Society of Medical Technology and a member of the Malletts-Bay Boat club.  She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield.

Age 57 of Mansfield died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1993, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Born June 11,1935, in Waverly, NY., he was the son of Frank and Althea Dartt Barron. He was a member and served on the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. He was a member of the Coudersport Consistory, National Riflemens Association, Tioga Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and served on the Tioga County Housing Authority. He was a member and past master and secretary of Friendship Lodge #247 F. & A.M. He was an Army veteran. He was a Penelec retiree. Preceding him in death was one sister, Kathryn Barron, in 1972. Surviving besides his mother of Mansfield are his wife, the former Sandra Wichert; one son, Mark of Mansfield; one daughter, Linda Shoff of Red Lion; one grandson, Garrett Shoff; one sister Janet Gigl of Lancaster; several step-sons and step-grandchildren. Friends called at the Wilston Funeral Home, on Tuesday, March 2. Friendship Lodge # 247 F.& A.M. also conducted services on Tuesday March 2. Services were held Wednesday, March 3, with the Rev. Norman Evans officiating. Burial was made at Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Mansfield Ambulance Association or the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield.

George Byer Wins Scholarship - Wellsboro Agitator, 1954
George Byer, winner of the Tioga County Scholarship, announced last week, plans to attend Mansfield State Teachers College and later take a course in journalism at some university. Mr. Beyer, a son of Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Beyer of Prospect St., graduated from Mansfield High School this year. He has been interested in journalism for several years. The Senior High School has produced several winners of this scholarship - Miss Marjorie Broderick having been the winner in 1953.

BEYER George Redman Beyer of Harrisburg, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the age of 76.  He was a distinguished Pennsylvania historian, editor, writer, and archivist. For many years, he was responsible for the state's highly regarded historical marker program. He had an eye for accuracy and detail during his 40 years of service (1961-2001). George gained respect from all as a gentleman, family man, and Quaker Peacemaker.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dana G. Beyer; his daughter, Anne Marie Brandenburg (Chris) and their children Areli Endura, Cole Patric, Cadin Christopher, Ashlyn Autumn, Chai Erik, Cooper Yale, Calvin Ajani, and Courage Justice; their son, Jason Eric Beyer (Katie Callan) has given them two grandchildren, Zane Redman and Mazzy Gabriel.  A memorial service is being held at Life Center Church on Monday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. Life Center is located at 411 S 40th St., Harrisburg, Pa. 17111. CHILSON, Stella - Stella Sargent, age 77, of Mansfield, PA, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Stella was born August 22, 1936 in Covington, PA, a daughter of Samuel and Marjorie (Wilcox) Chilson. She was married for 51 years to Leo F. Sargent who passed away February 3, 2006. Stella was a member and former secretary of the Community of Grace Fellowship Church. She was a wonderful woman who was a devoted wife and mother for her entire life. In later years Stella worked for the Mansfield Agway and served as Secretary and Tax Collector for Richmond Township. Stella is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Sargent and Fred and JoLyn Sargent; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barb Sargent, Annette and Dennis Hallock; a grandson, Denny Hallock; five brothers, Roger "Jack" Chilson, Sam Chilson, Dick (Cindy) Chilson, Bruce (Emily) Chilson, Lawrence (Rita) Chilson; four sisters, Dora (Jim) Tice, Nora (Jerry) Walter, Linda (Dan) McDonald, Leota (Duane) McClure; numerous nieces and nephews. Stella was predeceased by her husband, Leo; brothers, Mick, Mart, Roy and her grandson, Nathan Sargent. CREELEY, Virginia - Virginia C. Fessler, age 82 of Mansfield, PA, passed away December 27, 2018 at the Gatehouse in Williamsport, PA. Born on December 7, 1936, in Corning, NY, Virginia was a daughter of LeRoy and Velma (Fish) Creeley. She was employed as a cataloger for Mansfield University for over 37 years and was a member of Holy Child Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, camping, shopping and spending time with her family. Virginia married Eugene Fessler on June 29, 1957. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2019. Virginia is survived by her husband Eugene; daughter Sherry (Mike) Antes of Oxford, PA; sons Mike (Kate) Fessler of Ruther Glen, VA, Chris (Kim) Fessler of Cape May Court House, NJ, and Scott (Lori) Fessler of Covington, PA; daughter-in-law Carla Fessler of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren Brittany King, Vicki Madison, Chad Fessler, Ashley Antes, Kyle Antes, Kelsey Fessler and Kassidy Fessler; great grandchildren Lily King and Bristol Madison; sisters Patti Kendrick of Mansfield, PA and Mary Lou Dieterle of Elmira, NY. McCONNELL, Patricia A. - Patricia A. (McConnell) Fetterman, age 81, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Saturday, March 25, 2017.  She was born on March 2, 1936 in Wellsboro, PA a daughter of the late Earl W. and Estella McConnell.  She was married to the late William T. Fetterman and had worked for many years at Dunham’s Department Store, Wellsboro, PA.  She loved music, birds, sang at the Park View Hotel and was a former member of the Women’s Chorus.  She is survived by seven daughters and sons-in-law: Joanne Mitchell of Wellsboro, PA, Cindy Mitchell of Mansfield, PA, Chris Walls of Covington, PA, Teri Mitchell of Mansfield, PA, Kate and Guyle Aungst of Pine Grove, PA, Julie Mitchell of Wellsboro, PA, Patti and Chuck Coolidge of Wellsboro, PA, daughter-in-law: Sue Mitchell of Middlebury Center, PA, 10 grandchildren: Terry, Lauren, Ryan, Casey, Ashley, Brittany, Brandon, Cailyn, Erik, Connor and 4 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her son: Larry J. Carl was a U.S. Army veteran. William Sherman spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harland Sherman of Academy St. Mr. Sherman, a 1958 graduate of MSTC. He teaches Citizenship Education in the Mt. Upton, NY High School. He was an employee at the A&P Store in Mansfield for 5 years while attending school.

SHERMAN, Dorothy - Dorothy Smith, age 80, of Mansfield, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at The Green Home, Wellsboro, PA surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 30, 1936 in Elmira, NY, a daughter of Lyle and Iva (Smith) Sherman. She was the widow of Robert D. Smith who passed away on October 25, 2013. Dorothy was employed as the head cook for the Southern Tioga School District before she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield; a member of Curves; and enjoyed cooking, camping, square dancing and walking. Dorothy loved spending time with her grandchildren.  Arthur W. Strange Sr., 60, of Mansfield, died Thursday, May 22, 1997, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Born Nov. 16, 1936, in Tucson, Ariz., he was the son of Marcus and Myrtle Rice Strange. He was a retired lumberman.  He was a member of State Road Baptist Church, Mainesburg. Preceding him in death was his wife, Patricia Hilfiger Strange. Surviving are two sons, Daniel of Witchita Falls, Texas and Arthur Jr. of Mansfield; a daughter, Debra Campbell of Mansfield; a stepson, Vern Winnie of Millerton; a stepdaughter, Vicky Smith of Millerton; a brother, Wayne of Mainesburg; a sister, Vivian Andrews of Melbourne, Fla.; a granddaughter, Wendy Campbell; seven step-grandchildren. Calling hours were held Saturday, May 25, at the Gary W. Wilston Funeral Home, Mansfield. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 26, at the State Road Baptist Church, Mainesburg with the Rev. Eugene Charsky officiating. Burial was made in the State Road Cemetery, Mainesburg.
