Mansfield High School Graduates 1984
1984 view of Mansfield High School. Front section , formerly the gym - converted to auditorium, was built about 1927 attached to the old Brick School. In 1939, the Brick School was torn down and the new school built surrounding the central gym. The 1939 section  on left became the Junior High School in the fall of 1959, and the High School is the new part on the right.

 EDGERTON  Jeffrey E. [SRGP 88134] Age 39, of Mansfield, PA, died Thursday, January 5, 2006, at the Leonard Harrison State Park in Shippen Twp. Jeff was born on February 5, 1966 in Elmira, NY, the son of James E. and Mary Jane (Rose) Edgerton. He graduated from Mansfield Jr./Sr. High School in 1984, received his BS from Mansfield University, and Associate degree from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1996, and an MEd from Mansfield University. Jeff was a licensed Pennsylvania Funeral Director since 1998, he was a teacher at the Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira, NY since 1999, he enjoyed tutoring children after school, and was a part-time funeral director for the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel in Mansfield. Jeff will always be remembered for his devotion and unselfish love for his students, family and friends. Jeff is survived by his parents, James E. and Mary Jane Edgerton of Mansfield, PA; a sister and brother-in-law, Melinda "Mindy" and Melvin "Mel" Wentzel of Williamsport, PA; three nieces, Sara N. Neal of Mansfield, PA, Sadie and Taylor Wentzel of Williamsport, PA; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 8, 2006, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA, and on Monday, January 9, 2006, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the St. James Episcopal Church, 18 Saint James St., Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Rowena Gibbons officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jeffrey Edgerton to the Elmira Heights Central School District, 100 Robinwood Ave., Elmira Heights, NY 14903, or to the SPCA, Route 6, Wellsboro, PA 16901.

SHEILA M. RASMUSSEN [SRGP 13820]
Sheila M. Rasmussen, age 19, of RD 2, Mansfield, died suddenly on Tuesday, June 11, 1985, as the result of injuries received in an
automobile accident. She was born Feb. 18, 1966 in Wellsboro. She attended the Roseville Methodist Church. She was a 1984
graduate of Mansfield High School and was employed at Rasmussen’s Nursery at Mansfield. She is survived by her parents, Joseph W. Rasmussen and Mrs. Anna May Wood Hammond, both of Mansfield; stepsisters, Jeana Orr of Wellsboro, Colena Hammond of Virginia, Jaymie Sue Hammond of Mansfield, Genna Leigh Rasmussen of Mansfield; stepbrothers, Joseph Gunnar Rasmussen of Mansfield; stepfather, James Hammond of Mansfield; maternal grandparents, Gladys and Earl Wood of Mansfield; paternal grandparents Gunnar and Mary Rasmussen of Mansfield; stepgrandmother, Mrs. Sara Bump of Horseheads, N.Y., several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Scureman Funeral Home at Mansfield with the Rev. Wyn Green officiating. Burial in Jobs Corners Cemetery.

REIDY – Aleisha Lynn Reidy
19-Year-Old Dies – Wednesday, Nov. 28 [1984], at 8:20 p.m., Aleisha Lynn Reidy, 19, of RD2, Box 59, Mansfield, was driving toward Wellsboro on Route 6, about five miles west of Mansfield when her car, according to Mansfield State Police, drifted across the center line. Reidy’s 1978 Ford Fairmont struck a 1980 Olds Cutlass being driven toward Mansfield by Lucille Sherman, 64, of RD6, Box 183, whose granddaughter, 17-year-old Rebecca Cunningham, of the same address, was riding with her. Tioga County Deputy Coroner James Daugherty pronounced Reidy dead at the scene of head injuries. Sherman and Cunningham were transported by ambulance to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, where Cunningham was treated and released and Sherman admitted and reported in stable condition suffering sternum, knee and chin injuries. Sherman was released Tuesday, Dec. 4. The car Reidy was driving came to rest in the center of the highway blocking the roadway, and the Sherman vehicle came to rest on the south berm facing north. Assisting Police at the scene were the Mansfield and Wellsboro Fire Departments and ambulance associations and Tioga County Sheriff Richard Hastings. Aleisha was a freshman at Mansfield University and had graduated in June 1984 from Mansfield High School where she had been named Female Athlete of the Year for 1984. Her senior year, she had served as captain of three sports teams, Cross county, track and volleyball. She was planning to become a physical education teacher and had just become engaged to Todd Tice of Mansfield. The couple were planning to marry in June 1985. She was the only daughter of Linda Johnson Reidy of RD2, Mansfield and John D. Reidy Sr. of Millerton. The Reidys had lost their only son, John, 18, in a car accident that occurred on Canada Road on March 28, 1982 near the village of Covington. Others who died in the one-vehicle mishap were Marsha Mase, 15, of Blossburg, and Stewart Sharp, 17, of Covington. – Wellsboro Gazette, December 5, 1984

REIDY – Aleisha Lynn Reidy, 19, of RD2 Box 59, Mansfield died Wednesday Nov. 28, 1984 as the result of injuries she sustained in a two car 8:20 p.m. accident on Route 6, Charleston Township, Tioga County. Born Oct. 26, 1965 in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of John D. and Linda Johnson Reidy, Sr. A June 1984 graduate of Mansfield Junior Senior High School. Aleisha was very active in sports and was named Woman Athlete of the Year for 1984. A freshman at Mansfield University Aleisha was planning to marry her fiancé, Todd D. Tice of RD Mansfield in June 1985. She was a member of the Covington Baptist Church. Her brother, John D. Reidy Jr. died at the age of 18 on March 28, 1982 as the result of injuries he sustained in a car accident. Surviving are her mother, Linda Johnson Reidy of RD2 Mansfield; her father, John D. Reidy Sr. of Millerton; maternal grandparents, Mrs. Otto [Idalene Johnson] Richards of Elmira, NY and Clarence W. Johnson of Mansfield, PA; paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Daniel J. Reidy Jr. of Elmira, NY; two aunts, Mrs. Becky Lynn Besosa of Venice, Florida and Mrs. Paul [Sandra] Herbert of Elmira, NY; three uncles, Gordon Johnson of Sarasota, Florida, Donald L. Reidy and Joseph A. Reidy, both of Horseheads, NY; several great aunts and uncles and paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Marie Wilcox of Horseheads, NY. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 1984 at the Covington Baptist Church with Rev. John R. Truax, her pastor, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Friends were invited to call at the Kuhl Funeral Home, Mansfield from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday Nov. 30. – Wellsboro Gazette, December 5, 1984

SKELDING Thomas G. Skelding

46, of Towson, MD, died February 14, 2012, at home. He was born October 9, 1965, in Honolulu, HI, the son of, Gary & Judith Elsasser Skelding. Tom was employed as a reference librarian at Morgan State University for 21 years. He was a member of the American Library Association. Tom was a graduate of Mansfield Jr. Sr. High School, class of 1984, Mansfield University, Class of 1988, and earned his Master's degree in Library Science at Pitt University, class of 1991. In addition to his parents of Mansfield, Tom is survived by his brother & sister-in-law, Robert & Dori Skelding of Wilmington, DE, their children, Nathaniel & Sydney, and a special friend, Kara Gross of York, PA. A service of remembrance for Tom will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mansfield Free Public Library, 71 N. TRACY LAINE SPATAFORE
Tracy Laine Spatafore, age 18, of RD 2, Mansfield, died Tuesday, June 11, 1985, as the result of an automobile accident in Bloss Township. She was born Aug. 2 1966 in Vineland, N.J., daughter of Donald and Carole Clothier Spatafore. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Christine Spatafore, at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clothier of Williamstown, NJ; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Spatafore, Vineland, NJ, and several aunts and uncles. She was a 1984 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. She was employed at the Mansfield Motor Inn and the Ponderosa Restaurant. Friends are invited to call at the Kuhl Funeral Home in Mansfield from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday. Funeral there Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Benjamin Nevin, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield.
 

TICE - Anthony "Tony" Wayne Tice, 44, of Gillett, [SRGP 10437] died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at his home. Anthony was born Nov. 10, 1965, in Troy, a son of Russell H. and Amanda Brace Tice.  He had been employed by L.G. Niles, Ward Manufacturing and Cummings Lumber Company. Tony enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  Tony is survived by his father and step-mother, Russell and Mary Jane Tice of Gillett; a son, Kyle Tice of Columbia Cross Roads; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy and Diane Tice of Mainesburg, Alfred and Lori Tice of Granville Summit, Todd and Kathleen Tice of Covington; a sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Alan Smith of Morris Run; a half sister, Kelley Cady of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his mother, Amanda Brace in 1996.  Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, Dec. 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory and Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, with Pastor Dave Dressler officiating.
