Ernie Vosburg and his wife, Fran Brace, owned and operated the restaurant for many years. Ernie was also Mayor of Mansfield for several terms, and he was an all round good fellow. I worked for them during my sophomore and junior years of college, and I always told Ernie he put me through college by giving me a job. I am so pleased to have the opportunity to pay tribute to Ernie through this page. Everyone who went to Mansfield State College, now Mansfield University, in that era knew this restaurant. They always wanted a menu, and they ALWAYS ordered a hamburger, french fries, and a coke. This restaurant is presently operated by Edgewood Farms that got its start in Troy.  Joyce M. Tice

Update (2004) , it is now called the University Club. Update (2010) - Demolished and replaced by new borough building.

April 2005, Ron Conlin, grand-nephew of Ward Austin, was here today and reminded me of a "local custom" I had forgotten. When Ward Austin would enter the restaurant he would come in loudly crowing like a rooster, and Ernie, usually from way back in the kitchen, would answer barking like a dog. Local people were used to this humorous little prank, but surely the travelers who frequented the place then, at the hub of major routes 15 and 6, must have thought it very strange, to say the least.
