One of the oldest churches in Tioga County is the Rutland Hill Baptist (error-  it was Methodist) Church which was founded in 1842. The church was built on ground presented by the Rev. Amos Mansfield, the first pastor. If the church were to be abandoned entirely, the land would return to the present (land) owner of the farm from which it was taken, so each year a meeting is conducted in the church, in order to hold the charter. The collection taken is spent for repairs. At the 1931 meeting 176 persons were present, many of them former members of the church. The old collection baskets used many years ago, are still used at these meetings.
