Reading a series of obituaries from a single cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade" or business. All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. |

starting with Mrs. Dreyfus' pre-school, and continuing through Hendy Avenue
School, Booth School and Elmira Free Academy. At EFA, he enjoyed the privilege
of knowing Mr. Harrigan and Mr. Hughes and his classmates. He was proud to tell
of being a classmate of astronaut Eileen Collins (whose picture had a place of
honor in his room at home). Although he never graduated from high school, he
was privileged to attend Weber State College in Utah while studying premed. He
worked with emergency services. He was stationed at Hill Air Force Base and
worked as a fuel specialist and sometimes as a guide to dignitaries from
Congress, etc. His early training in skiing at Pinnacle and Greek Peak served
him well as he gained national ranking as part of the Air Force ski team. He
enjoyed dangerous activities such as racing stock cars, scuba diving, mountain
climbing, cliff diving. He was looking forward to becoming a licensed airplane
pilot. Steve was privileged to work with one or more staff members at Elmira
Hospital following his discharge from the Air Force. He discontinued his
medical training because he chose not to lose patients lives. He did, on
more than one occasion, give life saving first aid to accident victims. Steve
was a successful mobile home salesman near Ithaca, NY. Steve's active
lifestyle, intelligence and personality won many friends, including Steven
Wallenda of the wire-walking Wallenda family, Robby Knievel and Spanky
Spangler, as well as movie stars who skied with him. Steven earned praise from
a compensation court for his successful presentation of a friend's case seeking
delayed
compensation. He began writing a novel whose introduction showed promise.
Steven's goal in his late years was to be kept pain free. Only in his
final days in Robert Packer Hospital's Hospice programs was he able to be kept
pain free. Steven was, and remains, an exceptional person! A private memorial
service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary
Weaver at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments,
